Atelier Viento is the artistic practice of Yamily Castillo, a Miami-based contemporary artist whose textural paintings and sculptures explore memory, belonging, and transformation.
Using sand, coffee, mineral pigments, and mixed media, she builds layered paintings that evoke the earth’s surfaces, shaped by erosion, accumulation, and time. Each work develops through an intuitive yet deliberate process, where texture becomes structure and materials carry traces of their origins.
Her sculpture practice brings this language into the human form. Working with papier-mâché, coffee, and mixed media, she gives a second life to discarded materials, creating feminine forms that reflect vulnerability, resilience, and the connection between body and material.
Across painting and sculpture, her work balances softness and tension, inviting a closer encounter with the surface and a slower, more attentive way of seeing.
“From constant movement came the need to build something that stays”.
— Yamily Castillo
